A New Studio.....

so... a new studio was in order after the exist one got a major leak....
just aswell i rent a big house....

i had to rearrange the entire house to get the new studio...
friday night i started by re painting a bedroom to turn into
the new to be lounge come x box games room
for my little one (at least i can now shut the door to his mess)....

then having already got all the bolts of fabric out of the old room as it started to leak
(thank god i was home and no damage happened)... they ended up scattered all over the house....

i had to unscrew all the fixtures and move the rather heavy things into the new room...
unpack... repack.... unpack.... repack.... i'm sorry but i ache all over
now its all done and after some more tweaking today i a happy camper...

now my lovely dad is coming tomorrow to drill a hole or two in the walls to put up some shelves for me...
love you dad...

so now sewing can continue... just in time for the students on friday....

here's also a peek at Julie's Alpha Fun quilt that we have been working on...

Julie wanted to use up her scraps...... looks fantastic...

now whose this for.....

just in case.... one day a grandchild comes along.....

so... a new studio... do you like it.... xxx d

the 'make it in may' skirt sew along

i have joined in on Cams' from CurlyPops  'make it in may skirt sew along challenge'

objective - make a skirt you love and sew it in may, easy..... a whole month to make a skirt...
well that is achievable.....

i decided to go with the Jody Pearl Sew Outside the Lines pattern
'Splice Skirt' of which i have made several now....

there are people in your life you meet..... they bring joy to your heart... make you laugh... and
constantly inspired you.... thank you for always inspiring me jody....

i love the fact that one skirt can be so versatile as i have made the original here
i have also used the basic pattern as a beautiful a-line with birdie
and have let my creative left side of the brain out of its box....

now as i started to cut my skirt (in the most gorgeous fabric from kokka) marking the sewing lines
i thought why not....
only do half and leave one side plain to showcase the print....
then that beautiful ribbon from kaffe fassett as an added touch...
cut the band off an old jumper, attach (so can hide the expanding belly, too much chocolate)...

patterns for the 'splice skirt' are here - Sew Outside the Lines
and here - Hot Possum

i have enjoyed this challenge....
thanks to Cam for hosting...
might make a couple more for winter too...

so what or who inspires you....
would love to hear from you all....
please feel free to post a comment

Fiona Quilt 2

so baby number 2 needs a quilt
fiona loved this panel i had in stock and we got to played around with it a bit...
and with fi enjoying the hand quilting mammoth task i set her with quilt 1
another to do was just the order of the day....

the panel is a alice kennedy for timeless treasures...

we cut the panel up to make 9 blocks and as they differ in sizes we added various strips picking out
beautiful coordinating colours within the panel....
trimming the panels slightly....
making 3 rows x 3 rows.....

we added the small green border in between and around....

the outer border we decided to use the scrap fabric and strip piece together then cut into the required width.... now we still have the sides to sew on but both of us are very pleased with the result...

we used the owl fabric.. fiona's favourite....as a filler in between to make the required length...

fiona... i have had so much fun making this with you...
once again you let me just go with my creative side thank you.....
my left side of the brain just loves thinking outside the square...

i have added the alice kennedy panel to the web site
along with a bundle of 6 x long fat 8th's if you wish to do similar to fiona....

or you could just quilt sandwich the panel and get hand quilting around all those
birds.. owls.. butterflies... flowers....

we would love to hear your thoughts so please feel free to post a comment.....
